Ko Zhi Jian, the director of Bronze Visual Art
Bronze Visual Art has been telling stories with videos for more than 10 years, providing distinctive creativity and a professional approach to visual aesthetics.
Bronze Visual Art specializes in filming “arts” and “culture”, wining worldwide recognition for their filming quality and involvement in historical background study. Working with the National Palace Museum in 2020 on “A New Vision of National Treasures” in 8K resolution, Bronze Visual Art has brought the world a deeper vision into the beauty of national treasures.
Every detail of national treasures were recorded in 8K resolution in “A New Vision of National Treasures”, and the digital archives have been therefore enriched thanks to Bronze Visual Art’s endeavor. This project won the Gold Remi Award in Film and Video Production Arts / Cultural in the 54th WorldFest-Houston International Film and Video Festival.
“How can we edit and backup 8K videos? If we cannot solve this problem, all the high-solution materials are but in vain.” Ko Zhi Jian, the director from Bronze Visual Art, speaks out the inner voice of many professional video creators.
Direct-attached storage (DAS) used to be Bronze Visual Art’s primary way method of enabling video post-production. With the advance of recording technologies, the demands of video quality is likewise getting even higher. For example, a mere one-minute 8K video clip will incredibly take up more than 20GB. This rendered Bronze Visual Art’s existing DAS backup solution obsolete, and a new backup solution was sought for better work efficiency.
The post-production process was time-consuming for Bronze Visual Art. At first, the team has to download the dailies (original unedited video files) to the editing computers. Once the editing is finished, the video will be uploaded to DAS. This required every workstation to respectively redownload and reupload the video files, and the team worked sequentially to add special effects, color correction, and other elements.
Time is wasted with every download and upload. If they want to share the final video files with their clients or team members, they would then spend time again waiting for the same uploads and downloads.
“Are there any problems with QNAP backup solution? I don’t know. The only thing I know is just to work at ease, and then I don’t bother with anything.”
Bronze Visual Art eventually decided that the QNAP TS-h1283XU-RP enterprise-grade NAS backup solution, equipped with a LAN-10G2T-X550 10 GbE network expansion card and QM2-2P-384 PCIe cards for M.2 NVMe SSDs, was the ideal solution to improve post-production work efficiency.
The TS-h1283XU-RP is pre-installed with a dual-port 10GbE RJ45 adapter and a dual-port 10GbE SFP+ adapter for bandwidth-demanding applications. When the video is finished through the whole post-production process, the 10GbE high-speed network allows multiple video editors, special effects artists, and colorists to immediately do their work and save the final video files. Time is not wasted in endless uploads and downloads anymore.
It is common to see Windows and Mac computers dedicated to specific post-production processes in a typical video studio. For example, Macs are for editing the videos only, and Windows PCs are for special effects and color correction only. Thus, the ability to ensure data integrity and multi-version backups in Windows-Mac workflows has become the most predominant advantage of QNAP’s backup solution. In addition, snapshots are essential for NAS data protection. The TS-h1283XU-RP can use snapshots as a dependable method for protecting data in the face of growing ransomware threats.
The TS-h1283XU-RP adopts QNAP’s enterprise-grade QuTS hero operating system, which optimizes both storage utilization and SSD lifespan with powerful data reduction technology. Coupled with distinctive data self-healing, QuTS hero can ensure data integrity and reliability during operations. Even when providing a real-time and high-speed working environment the TS-h1283XU-RP only consumes 105W with every drive bay populated, which substantially lowers Bronze Visual Art’s average electricity cost.
To enhance work efficiency and provide the utmost performance, besides the pre-installed configurations, Bronze Visual Art specifically upgraded their TS-h1283XU-RP with a LAN-10G2T-X550 10 GbE network expansion card and QM2-2P-384 PCIe cards for M.2 NVMe SSDs. Both cards are installed in the TS-h1283XU-RP’s 4x PCIe expansion slots. Work efficiency is significantly improved with SSDs pushing up the overall IOPS and 10 GbE connectivity greatly increases Bronze Visual Art’s network performance.
“Time is QNAP NAS’ best gift to our team. When one day is saved from waiting, and we save one more day to make our work better.”
The TS-h1283XU-RP data backup solution effectively improves Bronze Visual Art’s work efficiency. Time is well saved transmitting large 4K/8K video files, and team members can immediately edit on NAS with 10GbE high-speed network. By being able to access the same data from Mac or Windows computers, they can work more efficiently with the time saved being used to improve overall project quality. Bronze Visual Art’s is very happy that the TS-h1283XU-RP allows them to spend more time creating new work, and they are looking forward to building a more intelligent and more efficient environment with QNAP’s innovative data backup solution in the future.
